  • Q: How long to bike tour in Japan?

    Most cycling tours range from 3 to 10 days, depending on your timeline and pace. However long the tour, we’ll make sure to make it memorable!

  • Q: What is the best time to cycle in Japan?

    We recommend the green season from April to November. Although some will dissuade cycling in Japan in summer, the high altitude of the Japanese Alps means that the days are still cool and pleasant for riding. See our area page for more information on riding in different seasons.

Who can Ride

  • Q: Do I need to be very fit?

    No, we design the tours depending on your fitness level and most riders opt for e-bike options for added flexibility. We cater and welcome all levels, and are also equipped with support vehicles so you never feel out of your depth.

  • Q: What if I have dietary requirements?

    Dietary requirements can usually be accommodated with advance notice including vegetarian, vegan and allergy specific requirements.

  • Q: Can children join?

    Yes, children are welcome! We have experience designing tours for families and we’ll make sure to integrate activities and routes which are exciting for everyone.

    There are no strict age limits, but let us know your specific requirements so we can do our best to accommodate wherever we can.

  • Q: What is the minimum and maximum number of people per tour?

    Since every tour is designed around you, we work with a wide range of group sizes.

  • Q: Is previous cycling experience required?

    No previous cycling experience is necessary for our tours, as we design the tour around you. We can adapt the routes and number of hours of cycling each day to suit your preferences and ease you in if you’d rather keep the cycling light. Our state of the art e-bikes also ensure comfortable cycling even for first timers.

Tour Logistics

  • Q: What kind of accommodation is included in the tour?

    Since the tour is designed around you, we will choose the accommodation based on your specific preferences. We work with a range of high level accommodation options including traditional ryokans, boutique hotels and locally run guesthouses as well as more unique stays in working buddhist temples and glamping up in the peaks.

  • Q: Are bikes included?

    Yes, the highest quality bikes are included as part of the tour, unless otherwise arranged.

  • Q: Can I bring my own bike?

    Yes, we welcome riders bringing their own bikes, although most choose to use our bikes for convenience.

  • Q: Are there bike options?

    Yes, a range of bikes are available and we are more than happy to find the right one for your tour if you let us know your preferences.

  • Q: What equipment do I need for the tour?

    Just yourselves, comfortable clothes for cycling and appropriate footwear. We provide everything else on the equipment front! We also provide a full packing list before departure for extra peace of mind.

  • Q: Are tours in English?

    Yes, our guides are fully bilingual local cycling experts.

  • Q: Will the guide help with navigation and local customs?

    Yes, guides will lead the route navigation, safety and explain the cultural context and customs, allowing you to immerse yourself in the journey and focus on enjoying the ride.

    Rest assured, our guides are all local to the area, so know the local customs and roads better than anyone.

  • Q: Are the routes flat?

    Routes are typically varied and customized according to your preferences. Even uphill stretches will feel like riding on flat terrain with the motor assist of our e-bikes. We recommend e-bikes for comfort and accessing the best views!

  • Q: Can I store luggage?

    Yes, luggage transfers are all seamlessly taken care of by our team.

  • Q: Are meals included?

    Tours typically include both pre-planned meals, included in the tour price, as well as more flexible options to cater to choice on the day, paid on site.

  • Q: Is travel insurance required to join the tour?

    Yes, travel insurance covering cycling activities is strongly recommended for your peace of mind.

  • Q: What should I wear?

    Comfortable, breathable, outdoors clothing which allows movement is recommended. Removable layers are also great for temperature changes with altitude, as well as a lightweight raincoat.

    We provide a full packing list before departure tailored to the specific route and season to address any uncertainties.

Booking & Cancellation

  • Q: What is the cancellation policy?

    Cancellation policies depend on the specific tour, as each is unique to you. However, we generally operate on a tiered refund system depending on how far in advance you cancel, as well as providing the option to delay trips to work around unforeseeable circumstances.

  • Q: How far do I need to book in advance?

    We recommend booking at least 3 to 6 months in advance, to ensure we can secure the best accommodation, tour guides and experiences. That being said, we’re very experienced with accommodating all manner of timelines so get in touch and we will do what we can.

  • Q: What happens if it rains or the weather is bad?

    Depending on the severity of the weather, we will adapt the routes or activities planned in order to still make the tour enjoyable regardless.

    Our support vehicles and extensive knowledge of the area allows us to respond quickly and flexibly to modify tours where necessary.
